
Fourteen people lost their lives early this morning following a devastating head-on collision involving two government vehicles on the B1 highway, just a few kilometres north of Mariental.

Hardap Police Head of Crime Investigations, Deputy Commissioner John Mwatongela, confirmed the incident and said the crash involved a police van and a Namibian Correctional Service transport vehicle.

According to Mwatongela, the police van had six occupants at the time of the accident five officers and one civilian, while the correctional service vehicle was carrying 13 individuals.
Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
