19 Namibians are reportedly scheduled for deportation from USA

Recent reports indicate that the United States, under President Donald Trump’s administration, is intensifying efforts to deport undocumented immigrants. According to information from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a list dated November 2024 includes 1.4 million individuals facing final removal orders, among them 19 Namibian nationals. These individuals are reportedly scheduled for deportation in the coming days.

Since President Trump assumed office eight days ago, federal agencies with expanded detention powers have conducted raids in several cities, including Chicago, Newark, and Miami. These actions align with Trump’s campaign promise to implement mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

In a related development, Tom Homan, the incoming “border tsar,” has announced plans for nationwide raids targeting illegal immigrants. Homan stated that the administration’s enforcement goals are broad, aiming to arrest public safety and national security threats across the country from day one. He emphasized that these operations are “well planned” and will involve “targeted enforcement operations” rather than indiscriminate raids.
These intensified deportation efforts have raised concerns among human rights organizations. Past deportations during Trump’s previous term led to reports of abuse upon return. For instance, Cameroonian asylum-seekers deported in 2020 faced imprisonment, torture, and rape upon their return, highlighting the potential dangers deported individuals may encounter.
The planned deportation of the 19 Namibians is part of this broader initiative. As the situation develops, it is crucial to monitor the actions of U.S. immigration authorities and the responses from human rights organizations to ensure the safety and rights of those affected.
