If you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time, by Billy Joel
Do you ever feel that you have been owned and used at work or do you ever feel like you have been blocked to archive something in life? Do you ever listen to songs like Believe Me Mama by Zondi and Yamukongo, but it sounds meaningless to you? All you feel is like you are bind by the rules you think it is unfair.
Hey! If you question yourself with these questions above, believe me, you will always find yourself on the wrong side of the rules of your job. I have been in that situation before.
The good news is that, if you learn yourself and know who you are, and adopt the right mind, you will never hear a word of complaint out of your mouth.
Here are five points, I point out for you that you may consider doing to help you to make the right choices:
1. Read books (fiction books and nonfiction books)
I like the quote for Margaret Fuller which she said that "Today you are a reader, tomorrow you are a leader". There are thousands of thousands of books out there written by great men done big in business from different corners of the world. If you cannot afford to buy even one, check online libraries like Internet Archiver and many more sites where they offer free books, or you can borrow or download as much as you want.
Reading books will help you to develop new ideas, it will motivate you to do better in life, and it will help you to learn new things from different people around the world.
2. People you are associated with
We all know that people who are close to you can influence you in good/bad ways. That's why watching yourself when you are among others is very important. Don't allow them to change who you are. They are just your friends, family, co-workers, or whoever they are, they are not you.
Let me assume that your dream is to own a company one day, but none of your friends talk about doing business, but their main concern is which company they want to work for. My friend! Avoid talking about future plans when you are around them.
3. Do what you love
They said that "choose the job that you like, and you will never have to work a day in your life". When you are doing what you love, you can start to work from 7 am to 7 pm without resting, you will never complain.
When you do what you love, you can able get the courage to stand up even when you fail. Doing what you love doesn't mean that you are good at it. You can love to drive but you don't know how to drive. The love that you have for driving will give you the courage to go and learn to drive, that does not mean that you can just go and start to drive and get a driver's license. You have to learn to drive and sometimes you can fail. But since you love it, you can do it.
4. Learn to be in the uncomfortable zone
In the book Rules of life, Richard Tampler wrote "Be prepared to be a little bit brave every day. Why? Because if you don’t you’ll grow stagnant and moldy or curl up and wither. We all have a comfort zone where we feel safe and warm and dry. But every now and then we need to step outside and be challenged, be frightened, be stimulated. It’s this way that we stay young and feel good about ourselves".
Wait a minute! Let me remind you something, can you remember, how did you feel when you were in trouble and how did you feel when you pass through it? Believe me, these two things came to your mind, ( I cannot make it and I'm a strong man/woman) I mean we all hate to be outside the comfort zone, but it's worth it to learn to be in the uncomfortable zone.
5. Believe in yourself
To believe in yourself doesn't mean that you can do everything by yourself or you always make the right decision. Believe in yourself is to have confidence in yourself, when you are in trouble, you know that you will do your best to make it right.
Bottom line
We all make mistakes, fail, but only the greater ones will stand up again. There are no secrets to success, it's a result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.
