Michael Amushelelo shared his ordeal in prison after being arrested on March 21, 2023, for allegedly organizing an unlawful protest demanding action against the rising unemployment rates in the country. During an interview with Fresh FM, Amushelelo disclosed that he fell seriously ill while in prison, and despite his pleas for help, it took an agonizingly long time for him to receive medical attention.

"I was sick and I informed the authorities, but they were reluctant to assist me," he stated.

It took the nurse an hour to arrive when I first called for help. After realizing that she couldn't provide the necessary medical care, they took another one hour and thirty minutes to get me to the hospital. What should have been a mere five-minute drive from the prison to the hospital turned into a two-and-a-half-hour ordeal," he recounted.

Amushelelo also shared his experiences while in prison, revealing that he was confined with inmates involved in the high-profile Fishrot scandal. These inmates, with nearly four years of incarceration, provided guidance and support during his time in prison.

"I met the Fishrot guys, and they are not doing well; they've missed everything," Amushelelo explained. "However, they were also encouraging me, given their extensive experience in prison life."

Michael Amushelelo was released from prison on the 12th of October 2023 after the state failed to provide enough evidence for his arrest. All the charges against him and two others were dropped.
