Baltasar Ebang Engonga

Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, director general of Equatorial Guinea's National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), is currently under investigation following the discovery of explicit videos allegedly featuring him in compromising situations with multiple individuals, including close family members and a person connected to the president. The videos were reportedly found on his computer.

Engonga, who is married and has six children, holds a key position in ANIF, tasked with investigating financial crimes and fighting corruption. The investigation into his conduct began with a probe into alleged financial fraud, which led authorities to the discovery of over 400 videos. The footage reportedly depicts Engonga engaged in intimate acts with several partners in various locations, including his office, hotels, and public restrooms.

The attorney general's office, led by Anatolio Nzang Nguema, has launched an inquiry to determine how the videos were leaked and to assess whether Engonga’s actions may constitute a public health risk. A spokesperson for the office confirmed that if the allegations are substantiated, Engonga could face charges for endangering public health.

The individuals seen in the videos reportedly include Engonga’s brother’s wife, a cousin, and a relative of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Although reports indicate that all encounters were consensual, the revelations have stirred controversy on social media, raising questions about privacy, ethical standards, and potential abuses of power in government.

Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue responded to the scandal by urging government officials to adhere strictly to their duties. In a recent post on the social media platform X, he reminded officials that “ministries are solely for administrative work” and warned that those found violating these principles could face dismissal.
