The Zambezi Regional Police have launched a large-scale operation to rearrest inmates who escaped from the Brian Manias Libuto Police cells in Kongoka on Sunday.
Authorities are calling on Namibian residents along the border with Zambia, particularly in the Singalamwe and Kamenga areas, as well as communities in nearby Zambian villages, to be alert and report any sightings of unfamiliar individuals to the police immediately.
The escape occurred during feeding time, with 13 inmates fleeing the facility. Police have successfully rearrested three of the escapees—one Namibian and two Zambians. However, 10 inmates remain at large, including nine Zambian nationals and one Angolan.
Zambezi Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Andreas Shilelo, has urged the public to cooperate in the search, emphasizing the potential risks posed by the escapees. Efforts are ongoing to tighten security at border points and apprehend the remaining fugitives.
Police have reassured the public of their commitment to restoring order and maintaining safety in the region.
