Nkurenkuru - Timber plank smugglers were involved in an accident early Tuesday morning at around 04h30 on the B10 road, just outside Nkurenkuru near the “Welcome to Nkurenkuru” signboard.
According to Kavango West Police Regional Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, the incident occurred when the driver attempted to avoid hitting a donkey on the road. The maneuver caused the trailer carrying 144 timber planks to unhook and overturn, spilling its contents across the roadway.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities have since intervened, with the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) set to issue a fine to the driver. Additionally, the Forestry department will take custody of the confiscated planks.
The accident has drawn attention to the ongoing issue of timber smuggling in the region. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, particularly in areas prone to wildlife crossings.
