South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his congratulations to Namibian President-Elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah following her historic victory in the presidential elections.
In a statement, President Ramaphosa lauded Nandi-Ndaitwah’s achievement as a milestone for democracy and gender equality in the region.

“Your election as the fifth President of the Republic and the first woman in our region to hold this high office is a testament to democracy and its ability to transform our societies. Congratulations to you personally, my sister, and to the South West Africa People’s Organisation which has benefited greatly from your leadership as Vice-President of the organisation,” Ramaphosa said.
He further expressed his eagerness to strengthen the ties between South Africa and Namibia, highlighting the shared history and future of the two nations. “I look forward to deepening the relationship South Africa has with Namibia and ensuring that the people of both nations will come to greater understanding and appreciation of their shared history and future,” he stated.
Nandi-Ndaitwah’s victory marks a significant moment in Southern Africa’s political landscape, as she becomes the first woman to lead Namibia since its independence. Her election is seen as a major step forward in promoting gender inclusivity and democracy across the region.
