Walvis Bay – In a distressing incident that has left the community in shock, a 26-year-old woman has been arrested on charges of assaulting a one-year-and-one-month-old baby girl in Kuisebmond.

The incident came to light on Friday, 27 December, when the mother of the baby dropped her child off at the nanny's home around 6:00 AM before heading to work. When the mother returned at approximately 5:30 PM, she was informed by the nanny that the baby was bleeding from her private parts. The nanny claimed that the child was under her care the entire time.

A subsequent medical examination revealed severe genital injuries, prompting law enforcement to intervene.

According to the Namibian Police (NAMPOL) weekend crime report, investigators suspect that the nanny may have physically assaulted and ill-treated the baby while she was in her care.

“The medical findings and circumstances indicate abuse,” stated the report, adding that further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the crime.

The arrest has sparked outrage and concern among residents, with many calling for stringent measures to ensure the safety of children entrusted to caregivers.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in the case.
