The incident happened on Monday when a 36-year-old man, Gideon Karufere Hausiku, lost his life in a car accident at Mbome village. Hausiku, a worker at Nankudu Hospital, died on the spot when a white Toyota Land Cruiser double cab overturned while attempting to avoid two donkeys.
According to reports, the driver, an employee of the Ministry of Health in Windhoek, swerved to avoid the donkeys, which appeared to be moving onto the road. Unbeknownst to the driver, the animals were tied to a tree, complicating the sitution.
Regional Commander, Commissioner Julia Sakuwa-Neo, confirmed the details of the incident, noting that the driver, who holds a C1 license, lost control of the vehicle during the attempt to avoid the donkeys. The vehicle overturned, resulting in multiple injuries to the passengers and significant damage to the car.
The accident left four other occupants, including the driver, injured. They were rushed to Nankudu District Hospital for medical attention.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
