The City of Windhoek has confirmed that Saturday afternoon's heavy rainfall, which led to widespread flooding, resulted in no injuries or fatalities. The floods affected several areas, including neighborhoods behind the Otjomuise Police Station, where homes were submerged.

City spokesperson Lydia Amutenya attributed the severity of the flooding in Otjomuise to discarded tyres that blocked natural water flow.

“Obstructions in culverts along Eneas Peter Nanyemba Street further worsened the situation, allowing water to enter nearby homes,” Amutenya explained.

She also reported that multiple vehicles were swept away by the floodwaters, and city emergency teams are currently evaluating the damage to provide assistance to affected residents.

Amutenya emphasized the importance of keeping water channels free of debris to mitigate future flooding risks.
