NAMDIA Heist Suspect Denied Bail in Windhoek Court

One of the suspects allegedly involved in the multi-million-dollar NAMDIA diamond heist, Joel Angula, a security officer at NAMDIA, was denied bail during his first court appearance this morning at the Windhoek Magistrate's Court.

Angula, is accused of playing a role in the heist that occurred on Saturday, he is a cousin to Max Endjala another suspect who reportedly shot himself on Saturday night as police closed in on him. He succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.

His legal representative, Rejoice Sakeus, indicated plans to file a formal bail application, but for now, the matter has been postponed to May 23, 2025, to allow for further police investigations.

The heist, which targeted diamonds worth an estimated N$700 million that were scheduled for sale on Monday, has left the nation reeling. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the fatal shooting of senior NAMDIA security supervisor, Francis Eiseb. Authorities are working to determine whether the bullet that killed Eiseb came from the firearm of Max Endjala, another suspect in the case.

The investigation continues, with Angula set to remain in custody until his next court date.
