The Erongo police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a human foot in the Swakop River on Wednesday. The grim find was made by a tour guide from Desert Explorers around 14:00 in an area situated between the NamWater and NamPower sub-stations.
According to police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the severed foot was found inside a white Nike Air Force shoe. Preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased was a dark-complexioned individual who may have died in a bushy area, with wild animals potentially scavenging the remains.
The identity of the deceased and the cause of death remain undetermined. The recovered remains have been transported to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for further forensic examination. Meanwhile, authorities continue to search the surrounding area for additional evidence that may provide more insight into the case.
Law enforcement has urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
