The Namibian Police (NamPol) in the Zambezi Region have arrested and charged a 22-year-old Namibian national for allegedly defrauding a 49-year-old Outjo resident of N$21,000 in cash through a fraudulent scheme.

According to Katima Mulilo Station Commander, Chief Inspector Charles Mayumbelo, the suspect is accused of convincing the victim that he possessed well-connected and powerful ‘magical’ charms from neighboring Zambia. He allegedly assured the victim that these charms, when used in a sacred cemetery, would multiply his money overnight.

The victim, believing in the scheme, handed over the cash but later realized he had been deceived and reported the matter to the police.

The suspect has been charged with theft under false pretenses and is expected to make his first court appearance in the Katima Mulilo District Court on Monday.

NamPol has urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities and to report any suspicious schemes promising unrealistic financial gains.
