Police in Ondangwa are investigating a disturbing case in which a 21-year-old woman allegedly concealed the birth of her baby girl by placing the infant in a shopping bag and hiding her in a wardrobe.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, 24 September 2025. According to police reports, the woman’s parents made the discovery after returning home. They had previously suspected their daughter was pregnant, though she had consistently denied it.
Initial findings indicate that the baby’s body appeared washed, but it has not yet been determined whether the infant was born alive. The body has since been transported to the Pathology Subdivision in Oshakati for further examination.
The young woman is currently receiving medical care at Onandjokwe Hospital, where she is under evaluation. No arrest has been made at this stage, and investigations are ongoing.
Community members have expressed shock over the case, which underscores growing concerns about the lack of adequate support systems for young and vulnerable mothers in Namibia. Authorities have urged the public to allow the investigation to take its course while calling for greater awareness and assistance for expectant mothers facing challenges.
