Mbambi Village, Kavango East – A 22-year-old woman, Mayira Kapango, was allegedly murdered by her uncle, reportedly a soldier, on Wednesday evening at around 20h00 in what police describe as a gruesome incident.
“Kapango was in her room listening to music with headphones when the suspect entered and struck her on the forehead with an unknown object, inflicting a fatal open wound,” Police report state.
The victim’s screams were heard by other housemates, who rushed to her room only to find her lying in a pool of blood. The suspect had already fled the scene.
Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, head of crime investigations in the Kavango East region, confirmed the tragic event.
The family has identified the alleged attacker as Kapango’s uncle, a soldier stationed in Windhoek. Witnesses claim to have seen the suspect near Kapango’s room shortly before the attack but noted his disappearance immediately afterward.
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the case and pursuing the suspect.
