A 24-year-old man is now facing additional criminal charges after he allegedly attacked a police officer at the Fransfontein Police Station on Friday evening.
According to the police incident report, the suspect had initially been brought in for questioning in connection with an alleged domestic violence case. The altercation occurred at around 21h00 while he was being escorted to the holding cells.
Police say the man suddenly became aggressive, grabbed the officer by the neck, attempted to strangle him, and tore the officer’s uniform during the scuffle. The officer was performing official duties at the time of the incident.
The suspect was eventually restrained, and a case of assault on a police officer has been added to the ongoing investigation.
Police say inquiries into the matter continue.
