Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has issued an update following reports that cleaners at Katjinakatji Combined School wrote examinations while standing due to a shortage of chairs.
In a statement shared on social media, Ngurare explained that the situation resulted from delays in the delivery of school furniture by two companies contracted to supply chairs and desks. The companies, one based in Kavango East and another in Kavango West, had not delivered the items within the expected timeframe.
He confirmed that the issue has now been resolved.
“I am pleased to inform you that as of Saturday and today, all chairs and desks have been delivered to the school,” the Prime Minister said.
Ngurare expressed appreciation to Executive Director Haitengela and the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ester-Anna Steenkamp, for their continued efforts to ensure that schools across the country receive the necessary furniture to create a conducive learning environment.
He further encouraged all companies awarded contracts by OMAs to meet their delivery commitments as expected, noting that timely completion of such responsibilities helps maintain trust and supports the smooth functioning of public services.
