Namibians Urged to Support Sankwasa Amid Baseless Media Claims, A Reminder of the Unfounded Attacks That Shadowed Late President Geingob

Namibians are being urged to think critically and not follow unverified media narratives as Minister Sankwasa faces claims that could tarnish his reputation. Observers warn that if the public blindly accepts these allegations, Sankwasa risks suffering the same kind of unfair treatment the late President Hage Geingob endured.
During his lifetime, President Geingob was repeatedly accused of being the “Boss of Bosses” in the infamous Fishrot scandal and labeled as one of the “unashamed looters,” among other derogatory terms. Despite the intensity and frequency of these attacks, no evidence was ever presented to substantiate the claims. While some media outlets chose to remain silent, misinformation persisted, influencing public perception and overshadowing the president’s achievements.
A notable voice defending truth was Martin Nanyemba, who in his New Era article titled “WHY DOES THE LAW NOT PROTECT THE SITTING PRESIDENT?” highlighted the vulnerability of public figures to baseless media attacks. Nanyemba’s article underscored the responsibility of citizens to distinguish fact from rumor and not blindly follow sensationalized narratives.

Today, Minister Sankwasa, who has been outspoken about inefficiencies and challenges in his ministry, faces a similar situation. Certain media appear to target him with unverified claims that could hide his positive contributions and unfairly damage his reputation. Experts stress that such misinformation undermines public understanding and can harm effective leadership.
The lesson from President Geingob’s experience is clear: following baseless allegations can unfairly harm dedicated public servants.
