Nollywood Mourns Legend Mr Ibu


Mr Ibu

John Okafor, born on October 17, 1961, in Nkanu West, Nigeria, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62. 

He is survived by his children Emmanuel Mandela Okafor, Chelsea Okafor, Jay Jay Okafor, his spouse Stella Maris Okafor, and his sibling Queen Chioma Egboh.
The unfortunate passing was attributed to a cardiac arrest.
This sad news adding to the recent loss of another actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, also known as Sisi Quadri, in Osun State.
The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the iconic Nollywood actor, John Okafor, affectionately known as Mr Ibu.
In a heartfelt condolence message shared on his social media platform, Obi emphasized that Mr Ibu’s demise is not only a profound loss to the entertainment sphere but also to the entire nation.
In his tribute, Obi reflected, “The news of his passing is profoundly disheartening. Mr Ibu was a comedic virtuoso who infused laughter, joy, and merriment into the lives of many.”

He continued, “During his illness, our collective prayers were fervently directed towards his swift recovery, hoping to witness his resurgence in robust health.”
Obi underscored the significance of entertainers like Mr Ibu, remarking, “These artists, who serve as beacons of levity, play an invaluable role in helping society navigate through the darkest of times.”

Expressing solidarity with the grieving family of Mr Ibu, the Actors Guild of Nigeria, and the entire Nollywood community, Obi conveyed, “While we collectively mourn his departure, we find solace in the enduring legacy of laughter and happiness he has bequeathed.”
John Okafor pursued his education at the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
