Bonifatius Wakudumo promised to make a change in distributing water in Kavango East Region

Early this month, if you have listened to radio Wato, you can remember the report for the campaign which took place in Rundu town, where youth and police officers joined together to go from location to location to teach people about Covid 19 and encourage them to go and be vaccinated.

Kakondo Johanna said that “besides, the wrong information that people were spreading about the vaccine, they also found that there are locations in town that facing scarcity of water.”

In today Radio Wato’s program called Uzuni Wantaantani, Damian Maghambayi, Chairperson of Kavango East Council,  and Bonifatius Wakudumo, Kavango East governer, report about their visitation to the Zambezi region where they found how successful the Zambezi region distribute water to their people.

According to them, it was a good experience and they learned a lot from Zambezi Region achievements.

“We saw different things and something that surprises us, thanks to the Rundu Town Council for taking this decision to send us to go and see and learn from others on what they did better than us. We went to see how they made it and what difficulties they face before they come out successful.” Bonifatius Wakudumo said

According to them, the Zambezi region has distributed water as far as 90km from the town to the villages.

“The most surprising thing we see is that most of their villages and houses made their gardens because of the availability of water.”

“In addition to that, we found out that between the roads that come from Ngoma to Katima there are more than 10 gravel roads that come out from it which goes to the villages.”

Compared to what they see in the Zambezi region, after 30 years of Independence there’s still nothing done in the Kavango region, despite the region being blessed with free water but still not able to use them.

He also stressed that due to lack of water, people are going to the river where some even end up risking their lives.

“We lost lots of people at the river because they have to go and fetch water at the river because we are just failing to get one pine that can take water from the river to the people so that it can be easily distributed to the people.”

In conclusion, they promised to bring changes in the region, if the Zambezi region did it, they will also do it.

“If God wishes, in these five years we are in charge with my team, we will fight to bring changes for distributing and extending water to the people. It is successful in the Zambezi region, why will it not succeed in Kavango East, in another word, we only need leadership and we have leaders and all we need is to take action.”

“There is no magic we have to perform, we only have to follow rules the government gives us,” He said.
