Woman Opens Police Case After Alleged Assault by Taxi Driver in Windhoek – The Updated World

A 21-year-old woman from Maroela, Windhoek, has opened a police case against a taxi driver following an alleged assault that occurred over the weekend in the city centre.

The victim, identified as Vakauana Kapuire, said that the altercation started after a disagreement over a drop-off zone in town. Kapuire claims the taxi driver became aggressive after she questioned the location where he intended to stop, leading to a physical confrontation.

“I only asked him to stop at a safer place because the road was busy. He got angry, shouted at me, and hit me,” Kapuire recounted emotionally. She later reported the matter at the Katutura Police Station, where a case of assault was formally opened.

Police spokespersons have confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that investigations are underway. Authorities have urged witnesses or anyone with video footage of the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.

The incident has reignited discussions about passenger safety and drop-off regulations within Windhoek’s central business district, where disputes between passengers and taxi drivers over stop points are increasingly common.

Community members have since called for clearer signage and stricter enforcement of designated taxi zones to prevent future confrontations.

As the investigation continues, Kapuire says she hopes her case will serve as a reminder that violence should never be used to resolve disputes.

“I just want justice and for this not to happen to anyone else,” she said.

Police investigations are ongoing.
