The Miss Côte d’Ivoire 2025 beauty pageant ban weaves, tresses, and wigs

Miss Cote d'Ivoire to promote Africa culture and identity

In a significant move to celebrate African authenticity, the Miss Côte d’Ivoire 2025 beauty pageant has announced a ban on weaves, tresses, and wigs during its preliminary selections. Victor Yapobi, president of the Comité Miss Côte d’Ivoire (COMICI), unveiled this decision on January 27, 2025, in Abidjan, emphasizing the promotion of natural beauty among contestants.

The decision to mandate natural hair has sparked diverse reactions. Notably, A’Salfo, the leader of the musical group Magic System, expressed his support, stating, “The major information to remember for this 2025 edition is that from now on, WEAVES and WIGS are no longer allowed during the contest. We will pray to God that a decree is issued to apply this rule to all the girls in the country.”

The theme for this year’s pageant is “What promotional contribution can the Miss Côte d’Ivoire contest make to the culture and tourism of our country?” The national caravan is set to commence on February 15 in Daloa, with preliminary selections spanning 13 cities across Côte d’Ivoire, including Odienné. The grand finale is scheduled for June 26 in Abidjan.

These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to celebrating African beauty and cultural heritage, positioning the Miss Côte d’Ivoire pageant as a platform for promoting authenticity and diversity.
