A 35-year-old man is in police custody following a shocking incident in Onekwaya West, where he allegedly killed his 95-year-old grandfather in what community members have described as a horrifying act of violence.

The tragedy began early Monday morning when the suspect reportedly launched an unprovoked attack on his 25-year-old cousin using a bow and arrow. The cousin, who narrowly escaped with his life, ran to their grandfather’s house seeking safety. Both relatives were said to have been targeted by the suspect, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs at the time.

Sadly, the grandfather could not escape due to his age. He was caught by the suspect and brutally murdered. According to witnesses, the suspect beheaded the elderly man with a panga and severely mutilated his face.

Following the attack, the suspect went to the nearby Onekwaya West clinic, where his cousin had been taken for treatment. Health workers, sensing danger, locked the facility to protect those inside. The suspect attempted to force his way in by breaking windows but failed.

After leaving the clinic, the suspect returned home, sat by the fire, and reportedly confessed to those nearby that he had killed his grandfather.

Police were called to the scene and, after a standoff, managed to arrest the suspect. Authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, while the community remains in deep shock over the violent loss of one of its oldest residents.
