A woman died after taking meat in memorial service

In July 14, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at a memorial service in Onambungulu village, Amuteya area, Oshikoto region, resulting in the death of a 48-year-old Namibian woman. The unfortunate incident happened when the woman accidentally swallowed a piece of meat while partaking in the meal served to mourners during the service.

The local authorities, under the guidance of Oshikoto regional police commander, Commissioner Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, responded to the situation promptly. Following the woman’s passing, her body was transferred to the Onandjokwe hospital mortuary for a thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of her death.

“She seemed choked after allegedly swallowed a chunk of meat, started coughing before collapsed, she was rushed to Onandjokwe hospital where she was declared dead,” Police said 

The authorities have taken the necessary steps to inform the woman’s next of kin about the heartbreaking incident. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an ongoing investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
