The Zambezi region is currently facing a locust outbreak, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Land Reform, Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi, informed the National Assembly that swarms of African migratory locusts have been detected in several communities.
According to the minister, the affected areas include Kasaya, Nakabolelwa, Luhonono, Bukalo, Kabbe, Muyako, Masokotwani, and Linyanti. Zaamwani-Kamwi emphasized the importance of swift action to mitigate the potential impact on crops and local livelihoods.
The ministry is reportedly coordinating with local officials to assess the situation and implement appropriate control measures. Residents in the affected regions are urged to stay vigilant and report any sightings to the authorities.
