Social activist Michael Amushelelo has officially announced his plan to participate in the upcoming City of Windhoek municipal council elections scheduled for November this year.
Amushelelo said the decision follows wide public support after he consulted Namibians on whether he should stand as a candidate. He explained that his main goal is to give residents a stronger voice in how their leaders are chosen and to encourage the nomination of ethical and trustworthy individuals to represent the community.
He stressed that his approach will differ from traditional political parties, which often decide on candidates without involving the public. By running as an independent candidate, he intends to involve Windhoek residents directly in shaping leadership at council level.
Having recently stepped back from his political ties and activism, Amushelelo says this move marks a new chapter where he aims to rebuild his life while focusing on public service through formal representation.
His entry into the race is expected to bring a different dynamic to the elections, particularly as he positions himself as a people-driven candidate.
