Authorities are investigating yet another suspected break-in at the Katima Mulilo Town Council, which is believed to have occurred between Friday night and Saturday morning.

According to a preliminary report issued by NamPol spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kisco Sitali, the intruders allegedly entered the building through the roof before breaking through the ceiling to gain access to several offices. Among the targeted areas were the cash hall and the property office within the town’s planning department.

This incident marks the second break-in carried out using the same method, following a similar case reported at the end of September. That break-in was later followed by a fire in the town planning department in October, which raised further concerns about the security of council facilities.

Chief Inspector Sitali confirmed that during the latest incident, a computer unit was stolen while a laptop was found destroyed.

Recently, Minister of urban and rural development, James Sankwasa strongly condemned the incident, aying it’s an inside job, aimed at destroying evidence. He questioned the suspicious nature of the October fire, which appeared to target only specific documents. Sankwasa has in recent months publicly spoken out about alleged corruption within the council.

Police investigations into the latest break-in are ongoing.
