In a developing story that has captivated the pageant world, Chidimma Adetshina, a former Miss South Africa finalist, is set to be stripped of her South African nationality and travel documents. The Department of Home Affairs launched an investigation into Adetshina’s citizenship after public outcry questioned her eligibility for the pageant due to her mixed nationality—her mother is of Mozambican origin, and her father is Nigerian.
The investigation intensified when it emerged that Adetshina’s mother might have engaged in “identity theft” to secure South African citizenship. As the Department of Home Affairs continued its probe, Adetshina chose to withdraw from the Miss South Africa competition in August, acknowledging the growing scrutiny around her citizenship.
