What was supposed to be a normal fishing weekend turned tragic after the lifeless body of a 40-year-old man was discovered in the Kavango River near Rundu Beach.
The deceased, identified as Poulus Kativa Shiviso—an employee of Waltons—was found by two of his friends on Sunday afternoon, after they had been searching for him for two days.
According to reports, Shiviso had gone to the river alone on Saturday after reaching out to his usual fishing buddies, only to be told they were fishing elsewhere that day. When he didn’t return home and stopped answering calls, his friends grew worried.
Their concerns turned into panic when they visited their usual fishing spot and found Shiviso’s clothes neatly placed on the riverbank, but no sign of the man himself. A search followed, which ended in heartbreak when his body was discovered lodged between rocks near the NamWater pumping station, a short distance from Rundu Beach.
The police were quickly notified, and investigations were launched. While the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, authorities confirmed that there were no visible signs of injury or foul play.
According to relatives and close friends, Shiviso was known to suffer from epilepsy—a condition that may have contributed to the tragic incident.
The Namibian Police Force has not ruled out drowning as the likely cause of death, but a post-mortem examination has been scheduled to determine the exact cause.
The community has expressed shock and sadness at the sudden loss, with many remembering Shiviso as a quiet and hardworking man who loved fishing and nature.
