The Namibian Boxing and Wrestling Control Board has issued a stern warning to veteran boxer Harry Simon and the Faith Foundation over their insistence on proceeding with an exhibition bout set for Friday, 14 June, in Oshakati an event the board has explicitly prohibited.
According to the board, the proposed fight between Simon and fellow boxer Paulus “Ninja” Shimweefeleni failed to meet the required standards for approval. Among the concerns raised were the lack of mandatory medical tests for both fighters and non-compliance with other safety protocols.
Board vice-chairperson Anita Tjombe told Confidente that hosting the event without official sanction will result in serious consequences for everyone involved.
“We will revoke the boxing licenses of Simon, Onkugo Promotions, and even the undercard boxers for a period of six years,” Tjombe warned. “They were advised to follow the rules, and they promised to comply but clearly, they have not. We have also alerted the Namibian Police in Oshakati to intervene and prevent the fight from taking place.”
Despite the clear directive from the regulatory body, both Harry Simon and representatives of the Faith Foundation have maintained that the fight will go on as planned, leaving uncertainty over whether the controversial bout will be halted or proceed in defiance of boxing regulations.
