Carlo Ancelotti, the current head coach of Brazil’s national football team and former manager of Real Madrid, has been sentenced by a Spanish court to one year in prison for tax fraud related to image rights earnings in 2014.
The case stems from his first spell at Real Madrid, where authorities found he failed to declare certain income. However, the court cleared him of similar charges for 2015 due to lack of evidence that he was a tax resident that year.
Although sentenced, it remains unlikely that Ancelotti will actually serve time behind bars. Spanish law typically suspends sentences under two years for first-time offenders in non-violent cases.
Ancelotti, who recently took charge of Brazil’s national team in preparation for the 2026 World Cup, has not commented on the ruling yet. Despite the legal setback, his focus is expected to remain on his high-profile role with Brazil, aiming to lead the team to glory on the world stage.
