Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema was briefly rushed to safety on Saturday after a group of angry individuals threw stones during his community visit in Chingola, Copperbelt Province.
The President had gone to address residents affected by the recent fire that destroyed stalls at Chiwempala Market and to listen to concerns from miners involved in ongoing disputes. However, the gathering turned tense when some members of the crowd began shouting and hurling stones toward the stage.
Security officers quickly shielded President Hichilema and escorted him away from the area to prevent further unrest. Despite the disruption, he later urged Zambians to remain calm and assured that all grievances would be handled through lawful and peaceful means.
Police confirmed the incident and said an investigation is underway to determine what led to the outburst and to identify those responsible.
