Following Namibia’s appeal for international assistance in combating the ongoing drought crisis, several nations have responded with humanitarian support. Among the first to extend aid was Qatar, and now the People’s Republic of China has joined the efforts.

Today, the Namibian government received a donation of 27,200 bags of rice, each weighing 50 kg, from China as part of the country’s Drought Relief Programme. The shipment, which arrived by sea earlier this week, is designated for beneficiaries in the drought-affected Oshikoto region.

Speaking on the donation, Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, Maximus Halwoodi, highlighted China’s prompt response following the Head of State’s appeal for both international and local partners to help mitigate the effects of Namibia’s severe drought.

“This generous contribution from China underscores the strong bilateral ties between our nations and will provide much-needed relief to communities struggling with food insecurity,” Halwoodi stated.

The Namibian government continues to work with global partners to secure further support as the country battles the devastating impact of prolonged drought conditions.
