A daylight robbery near Oshakati has left a 59-year-old Swiss tourist injured after she was shot in the leg during an ambush by armed assailants.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 25, 2025, when a group of tourists traveling from Tsumeb to Outapi stopped to rest near Emono village, about 3.3 kilometers outside Oshakati. According to the Namibian Police, four suspects, pretending to offer assistance, attacked the group as they exited their rental vehicles.

During the assault, the Swiss woman was shot three times in the leg. She was rushed to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where doctors treated her injuries. She has since been discharged and is reported to be in stable condition.

The attackers, armed with knives, stole waist bags containing passports, credit cards, and approximately NAD 21,000 in cash. Police confirmed that one suspect, a 35-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with the robbery and is expected to appear in court on Monday, September 29, 2025. The other three suspects remain at large.

Police have appealed to the public for assistance in tracing the remaining suspects, urging anyone with information to come forward.

The incident has raised security concerns in the Oshakati area, particularly regarding the safety of foreign visitors. Authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and additional patrols will be deployed to curb violent crimes along major travel routes.
