After nearly a decade of uncertainty, the family of missing cattle herder Fillipus Jurius has finally found closure. His decomposed remains, which were discovered in 2015, have only now been officially identified, allowing his loved ones to bury him on Saturday.
Jurius, who was 25 years old when he disappeared from Onamatanga cattle post in the Omusati Region on 4 August 2015, his remains were discovered on the farm of former information minister Joel Kaapanda, where he had last been seen working.
Although a post-mortem examination was conducted on 20 October 2015, confirmation of the identity of the remains came only on 18 August 2025, ten years later. The long delay meant that his family was left in limbo for years, uncertain about his fate.
Speaking after the burial, Jurius’ paternal aunt, expressed relief that the family could finally mourn properly. “We could now lay him to rest, 10 years after. A heavy weight has been lifted from our shoulders,” she said.
