The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested three police officers on charges of soliciting bribes totaling N$25,000. The alleged incidents took place between 1 May and 29 July 2024.
The suspects, Deputy Commissioner Rector Sandema (51), Senior Detective Inspector Martin Basson (56), and Senior Detective Inspector Johannes Anghuwo (49)—allegedly demanded bribes from a businesswoman while investigating her stolen vehicle. According to an ACC report, the officers requested money in exchange for assistance in tracking and recovering the vehicle.
The trio appeared before the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on 26 February 2025, facing charges under Section 43 of the Anti-Corruption Act, 2003 (Act No. 8 of 2003) for abusing their positions for personal gain.
Due to concerns over possible interference with the ongoing investigation, the court denied bail. The case has been postponed to 7 March 2025 for further bail deliberations.
