A woman is in serious but stable condition at Swakopmund State Hospital after being hit by a speeding pickup in a hit-and-run incident on Saturday afternoon in Mondesa.
The accident took place on Ondjamba Street, near Hanganeni School, while the 28-year-old pedestrian was crossing the road. Witnesses say the vehicle was moving at high speed when it struck the woman. Although the driver tried to brake, he still hit her, and she became trapped underneath the pickup. The driver allegedly reversed to free her before driving off without offering help or reporting the accident.
Police confirmed that the 28-year-old male suspect turned himself in at the Mondesa Police Station earlier today.
He is currently in custody and being held at the station. His first court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow at the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court.
