
A man is currently under police guard at Nankudu State Hospital following a road accident involving a pickup vehicle that was carrying 19 football passengers. The vehicle overturned on the B15 road near Vandonga village on Sunday, leaving all occupants injured.
According to Chief Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the accident occurred when the driver attempted to change gears, causing the vehicle to roll. The passengers, all residents of Katwitwi settlement, sustained varying degrees of injuries, ranging from minor to serious.
Authorities revealed that the driver, who is now hospitalized, allegedly had a breath alcohol level of 1.36 milligrams per 1,000 millilitres well above the legal limit. He is expected to face several charges, including reckless and negligent driving, overloading a vehicle, and driving without a valid license.
Police have launched a formal investigation into the incident, with more details expected to emerge as the case unfolds.
