
A 68-year-old Dutch tourist has died following a tragic road accident on the C14 road in the Kuiseb Canyon, about 156 kilometres outside Walvis Bay, on Saturday morning.
According to Erongo police spokesperson Senior Inspector Judith Shomongula, the incident occurred at approximately 11h20 when a brown tourism vehicle belonging to a local rental and tour company overturned while descending a hill. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Buschman Camp to Walvis Bay with eight occupants on board, including seven tourists and a Namibian tour leader.
The deceased has been identified as Lisette Monique De Bruijn, who died at the scene. Police confirmed that her next of kin have been informed.
The 30-year-old Namibian driver escaped the crash unharmed, while the 47-year-old tour leader and six other tourists sustained minor injuries. Ambulances from Walvis Bay and Swakopmund rushed to the scene, and the injured were transported to Welwitschia Hospital in Walvis Bay for medical treatment.
Authorities say investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
