A domestic dispute turned deadly in the early hours of Sunday when a 50-year-old woman was fatally stabbed, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, who later took his own life.
NamPol’s Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased woman as Sofia Nero and the suspect as Christiaan Kooitjie (42).
According to the police, the incident occurred around 04:00 in Block E, Rehoboth. It is alleged that Kooitjie confronted Nero at another man’s home, demanding entry. When the occupant refused to open the door, the suspect allegedly used a homemade weight bar to break it open.
“The man inside tried to stop the suspect, but upon seeing him holding an open knife, he pushed him away and fled,” Shikwambi said.
When the occupant later returned with the police, Nero was found with three stab wounds to the left side of her neck. She is believed to have died instantly from her injuries.
Police officers immediately pursued the suspect. However, upon arrival at his residence, Kooitjie was discovered dead in his bedroom, hanging with shoelace threads around his neck.
Both families have been informed, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
