A tragic workplace accident has claimed the life of a 42-year-old farmworker in the Omaruru district. The incident occurred on Thursday morning while the worker was carrying out routine duties in the fields.
According to Erongo police, Katamatje Dama had been operating a tractor that was baling grass near the C-33 road, roughly 28 kilometers from Kalkfeld, when the machinery developed a fault. In an attempt to repair it, Dama became trapped in the mechanism and died instantly at the scene. A nurse from Omaruru State Hospital later confirmed his death.
At the time of the accident, Dama was accompanied by a colleague who was manually gathering grass nearby. The deceased, originally from Otjisepua village in the Okamatapati area, has since been transported to the Otjiwarongo Police Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
His family has been notified, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
