
A tragic accident unfolded last night around 7:30 PM in the Sauyemwa area near Hilka Park along the Rundu-Nkurenkuru main road, resulting in the death of a local oxcart operator.
Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, coordinator of crime investigations in Kavango East, confirmed that a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Namibian Police was traveling eastbound when it collided with an oxcart crossing the road from south to north. The impact led to the immediate death of the oxcart driver, identified as 43-year-old Ndara Mateus Kasera, as well as the loss of two oxen.
The crash caused significant damage to both the police vehicle and the oxcart. Kasera’s body was transported to Rundu State Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is scheduled as part of ongoing investigations. Authorities have also informed the deceased’s family.
Meanwhile, the police vehicle’s driver sustained injuries and has been admitted for medical observation at Rundu Intermediate Hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation as police work to establish the full details of the incident.
