The official residence of Tanzania’s National Assembly Speaker has been completely destroyed by fire, authorities confirmed on Friday.
According to local reports, emergency services responded to the scene, but the blaze had already consumed much of the property by the time firefighters arrived. No injuries or fatalities have been reported so far.
Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation, although it occurred at a time when Tanzania is experiencing heightened political unrest following ongoing election-related tensions.
Government officials have yet to release an official statement on the extent of the damage or whether the incident may have been linked to the current political climate.
The Speaker’s office has assured the public that parliamentary duties will continue uninterrupted while investigations into the fire continue.
