A former worker at First National Bank (FNB) in Rundu has been arrested for allegedly stealing N$215,000 from a pensioner’s account. The 34-year-old woman was taken into custody on Tuesday and is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Kavango East Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, said the suspect used her job at the bank to take money from the pensioner’s account using online banking. She first helped the pensioner open the account and later made transfers without permission.
Police investigations show that the pensioner had deposited N$550,000, and from that amount, the suspect sent N$100,000 to herself, N$15,000 to her nanny, and the rest to other accounts. It is believed she faked signatures, changed banking records, and used the pensioner’s phone number to complete the transactions.
The fraud is said to have happened between 2022 and 2024. Police are still investigating to find out if others were involved and where all the money went.
