Windhoek – Former Swapo Party Member of Parliament, Steve Biko Booys, who is facing charges of rape and incest, will inform the Windhoek High Court today about his efforts to secure a lawyer for his bail appeal.
Booys had applied for bail twice—first at the Magistrates Court and later at the High Court. However, both applications were denied.
The State has charged Booys with four counts, including two counts of rape and two counts of incest. He is accused of raping his 21-year-old biological daughter on January 16 and 17, 2021, in Okahandja.
Several private lawyers who initially took on his case later withdrew. In a letter to the court, Booys explained that he had tried to contact two legal practitioners, but their offices were closed due to the festive season.
As a result, he has not been able to secure legal representation and has requested a postponement.
Judge Naomi Shivute has postponed the case to March 10. On this date, Booys is expected to provide an update on whether he has found a lawyer.
