A tragic incident unfolded in Ankambo village, Oshana Region, where a four-month-old baby boy lost his life after being accidentally hit on the head with a brick thrown by his mother.
According to police reports, the incident occurred when the child’s mother confronted her boyfriend after allegedly finding him with another woman. The mother, who had been carrying the baby on her back, attempted to force her way into the room where the boyfriend was with the other woman. In the ensuing struggle, the baby fell to the ground and was picked up by his father.
In a moment of chaos, the mother threw a brick at the father. However, the brick slipped from her hand and struck the infant instead. The mother immediately rushed the injured child to Onandjokwe Hospital, but the baby was declared dead upon arrival.
The Oshana police confirmed that a case of murder has been opened. Preliminary investigations suggest there was no clear intent to harm the child. No arrests have been made so far, and the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor general for further consideration.
Police have since cautioned community members to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts and avoid violent confrontations that could end in tragedy.
