The Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) is facing a fresh wave of resignations, with Shonena Nathanael becoming the fourth member to part ways with the party in less than seven days. His departure adds to a string of high-profile exits that have placed the former official opposition under increased scrutiny.
In his resignation letter, Nathanael said he had joined the PDM Youth League in 2024 with expectations of working toward a “vibrant political future” and supporting an organisation that prioritized citizens’ needs. However, he claims the internal culture fell short of those ideals.
“Instead of progress, I encountered persistent back-door gossip and a leadership style that, as the proverb goes, must be thrown out with the bathwater,” Nathanael stated.
Nathanael’s resignation follows that of former parliamentarian Yvette Araes, who stepped down on Wednesday to “pursue new paths.” On Thursday, Esmeralda !Aebes also left the party, citing divisions and personal reasons. Long-serving member Vakamuina Kamutuezu confirmed his resignation yesterday, further deepening the party’s internal shake-up.
So far, the PDM leadership has not issued an official response to the growing wave of departures.
