The Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Dr. Esperance Luvindao, visited healthcare facilities in the Kunene Region to assess services and strengthen healthcare strategies.
In a busy one-day program, Dr. Luvindao toured Outjo Hospital, Outjo Clinic, Legacy Clinic, and Kamanjab Clinic. She emphasized the need for stronger accountability at all levels of the health sector.
The Minister praised the Kamanjab Health Centre for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and urged other facilities to follow the example. She stressed that hygiene technicians must have clear reporting lines and be held responsible for their duties.
“A dirty hospital reflects a failure in management,” she said. “Accountability must exist at every level.”
Dr. Luvindao noted that many challenges faced by healthcare facilities are not only because of limited resources, but also because of poor management and weak accountability structures. She highlighted that even basic issues, like patients sleeping on beds without linen, must be urgently addressed.
“We cannot treat such conditions as normal. Quality healthcare starts with the basics,” the Minister said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Luvindao announced that accountability measures would be reinforced across all regions, with regional directors ensuring that operational standards are properly maintained.
She concluded by explaining that her visit was not only to observe, but also to find solutions: “At every facility, we sat down with management, listened to their challenges, and developed strategies together. This is how real change begins.”
