A villager from Gcaruhwa village in the Kavango West region made a grim discovery on Saturday when they stumbled upon human remains in the bush.
According to Kavango West chief inspector Raimberth Muronga, the villager immediately informed fellow residents and the local headman, who then reported the matter to the police.
“It’s alleged that skeletal remains believed to be of an elderly person and a minor — suspected to be a mother and her son — were found scattered at the scene,” Muronga said.
He added that materials and elements found near the scene would play a crucial role in identifying the deceased and determining the cause of death. “Forensic investigations will be conducted in the matter,” he said.
Muronga also noted that, although there have been no recent reports of missing persons in the region, preliminary information suggests that a woman and her son from Sipwi village went missing several months ago. However, the exact date of their disappearance remains unclear.
The remains were transported to the Nkurenkuru police mortuary for forensic testing.
Police have since urged community members to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.
